Professor Ada Cheung.

Prof Ada Cheung (she/her) is a leading specialist consultant Endocrinologist providing individualised, patient-centred endocrine care in close collaboration with local GPs. She welcomes any General Endocrine referrals in adult patients.

Prof Cheung holds a prestigious Australian Government National Health and Medical Research Council Fellowship as well as a Dame Kate Campbell Fellowship at The University of Melbourne, striving to advance health outcomes for individuals with hormone conditions.
She is also an Endocrinologist in the Department of Endocrinology at Austin Hospital. Prof Cheung has research interests (click here for publications) in understanding the effects of testosterone and oestrogen on the body, in particular preventing side-effects of androgen deprivation therapy for men with prostate cancer and improving health outcomes for trans and gender diverse individuals (www.transresearch.org.au).
Prof Cheung has won a large number of international and national awards for her research including being one of five recipients worldwide (and the only Australian in 2016) of the prestigious US Endocrine Society Early Investigator Award and a finalist in the Victorian Premier’s Award for Health and Medical Research. Her advocacy and commitment to co-creation with community to improve trans health was recognised with the GLOBE LGBTIQ Ally of the Year.
Prof Cheung is also a tutor, lecturer and supervisor at the University of Melbourne Medical School. Furthermore, she is a policy committee member of the Australian Professional Association for Trans Health, Associate Editor of the International Journal of Transgender Health, and an editorial board member of leading international medical journals; the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, LGBT Health, and Therapeutic Advances in Endocrinology and Metabolism. She regularly engages in media and presents at national and international conferences and meetings. Committed to community service in the not-for-profit sector, Prof Cheung is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Community Directors.
Medical Training
Prof Cheung completed her Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery at The University of Melbourne and graduated in 2003 as the top medical student at the Austin Hospital Clinical School. She continued her medical training and specialty training at Austin Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Northern Hospital and Bendigo Hospitals and obtained her Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Endocrinology. She has General and Specialist Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency.
